About the society
We believe in the educational power of jazz.
Friends of Nanaimo Jazz Society is a registered non-profit society in Nanaimo. We bring live jazz and music education together with the support of local businesses, musicians, educators, volunteers, and audiences.
Our mission
Live jazz and music education, together.
We celebrate Nanaimo’s musical and cultural heritage while supporting the musical education and development of emerging jazz musicians. Students learn from professional musicians in clinics, perform for live audiences, and can access scholarships and bursaries.
For students
Learn, perform, and play alongside professionals.
Free clinics provide direct instruction. Opening sets and occasional performances with the featured musicians turn that learning into live experience.
